Research in Namibia
Why Research Matters
Research helps Namibia understand how many people are affected by rheumatic and congenital heart conditions, what barriers patients face, and how services can be improved.
Namibian RHD research has examined:
* Clinical prevalence and surveillance data
* Health-related quality of life
* Healthcare use before and after diagnosis
* Preventive interventions
* Cost-effectiveness of screening and secondary prevention
* Equity and reproductive health challenges among women living with RHD
Research and service initiatives have highlighted the importance of:
* Early detection of CHD
* Paediatric cardiac services
* Referral pathways
* Surgical partnerships
* Follow-up care
* Transition from paediatric to adult cardiac services
* Family and nurse education
NARCHA will promote patient-centred research by:
* Supporting patient involvement in research design
* Sharing research findings in simple language
* Promoting ethical patient registries
* Advocating for better national data
* Linking researchers, patients and policymakers
* Supporting policy briefs and public engagement
We bring together patients, families, healthcare workers, researchers, policymakers and partners to improve awareness, early diagnosis, treatment access, patient support, advocacy and research.
